Late on September 17, 2026, the Austin Fire Department responded to overheated wiring in a 33rd floor utility room. About 100 people were evacuated.
Repairs needed the whole building's power shut off. A September 30 email from management put the earliest return of power at October 23 to 31.
RPM Living offered residents a lease termination at no cost, or reimbursement of $500 to $750 a day with receipts. Each comes with rent abated from September 18 until power returns.
The city issued an emergency electrical permit on October 5 for temporary wiring to bring power back to occupied spaces until permanent repairs are done.
The October 23 to 31 window has passed. As of November 1 we found no public report that power is back. Ask us and we'll check the current status with the leasing office before you tour.
If you're touring The Bowie this fall, we check power, elevators and the amenity floors the week you tour. We ask for any open repair to be written into your lease terms before you sign.

Pick The Bowie for the address and the price per square foot. Go in knowing its service record. We ask for the repair status in writing before you sign.
A good fit if
You want groceries two minutes away and a car you rarely start
You want lake and downtown views at a lower price per square foot than the towers around it
You're fine with a 12 to 15 month lease, and you'll read the lease closely
Maybe not if
You need an elevator you can count on every day
You work from home and a dead HVAC unit costs you a workday
You want a quiet south facing bedroom (the rail line runs below)

Management's September 30 email gave October 23 to 31 as the earliest date. The city issued an emergency permit on October 5 for temporary power to occupied spaces. That window has passed, and as of November 1 we found no public report that power is back. We check the building's status the week you tour and tell you what we find.
Does the special apply to studios?
Check the special box under What's open: it names the sizes it covers each day. When we read it on October 25, 2026 it covered 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms on 12 to 15 month leases, not studios.
Is The Bowie in a flood zone?
Yes. FEMA maps the address in zone AE, the 1% annual chance flood area near Shoal Creek. Standard renters insurance usually leaves out flood. Price a flood contents policy if you park in the garage or keep a ground floor storage unit.
What can I walk to from The Bowie?
Whole Foods is 2 minutes on foot and Trader Joe's 3. Coffee is 4 minutes, the lake trail 12 and the Saturday farmers market 10. Every walk time on this page comes from a walking route from the front door, not a straight line.
Is the gym open?
The building advertises a rooftop fitness center. Residents wrote in 2025 and 2026 that it was closed for long stretches and that the building gave them a Life Time membership instead. We check which one you'd be using before you sign.
Does The Bowie allow pets?
Yes, with restrictions the property gives on request, and we ask for them before you apply. There's a 10th floor deck with a dog run and a pet grooming room, and a vet six minutes away on foot.
What fees should I expect beyond rent?
The property's fee breakdown issued July 15, 2026 lists $167 a month in fixed fees. That's $95 cable and internet (residents say they can't drop it), a $25 amenity fee, $28 trash, $3 trash admin and $16 pest control. Parking is $150 a month, or $200 for a reserved space. Renters insurance is required: $50 a month through the property's program, or bring your own policy. To apply, it's $100 per applicant, a $375 admin fee and a $300 to $800 deposit. We ask for the current amounts in writing before you apply.
